Middle School

QSI Chisinau's middle school program is taught in a homeroom format in which students are given ample opportunity to develop knowledge and skills and at the same time work closely with teachers and peers in small classes. The focus on fundamentals and creating a firm foundation for secondary work. Students may take Algebra for secondary credit if they are qualified. All students receive a focused program with caring teachers and ample opportunities for success.

As appropriate, some students in the 12 and 13 year-old classes may take secondary level courses and receive secondary credit. If a student leaves a QSI school before entering the secondary school, a letter will be attached to the student’s evaluation form (status report) indicating the secondary level of work in which the student was involved.

Collaboration, Communication, Critical Thinking, and Problem Solving

A primary component of our middle school program are 21st century skills. Developing these skills helps our student to prepare for a rapidly changing future. Through project-based learning, our students are engaged in authentic, real-world learning situations.

QSI Chisinau middle school students follow a block schedule with alternating "Blue" and "Maroon" days. A typical schedule for middle school students includes eight courses. The daily bell schedule can be seen below:

Student Services

Counseling

Our middle school students have access to counseling to ensure that all students are well-adjusted, learn appropriate social skills, and receive extra support when needed. The middle school teachers and counselor work to create a provide a comprehensive social emotional learning program for all students.

Intensive English

Every QSI student has the opportunity to succeed in their learning, and students are expected to thrive in their classrooms. However, a student whose English proficiency level is below that commonly associated with their age may not be able to flourish in the mainstream classroom. The intensive English program is designed for these students. The goal of the Intensive English program is to create an accelerated learning environment that enables students to acquire English language skills in the four domains of speaking, listening, reading, and writing, thereby achieving success in their age-appropriate mainstream classes. Intensive English classes are smaller than mainstream classes, allowing teachers to target individual student needs more effectively. The intensive English program enables students to achieve academic success and develop confidence as learners.

Learning Support

QSI Chisinau collaborates with our regional Learning Support Coordinator to provide additional learning support to students identified as having special educational needs. Staff work to implement recommended accommodations in their learning environments to achieve success, and, when deemed necessary by individual students, make modifications to the curriculum. The school strives to provide the best possible conditions for all students, including those with diverse needs, to succeed in the QSI environment.

Student Life

Middle school represents a significant phase of exploration and self-discovery for students. We actively nurture this period by encouraging our students to explore their interests and passions through our diverse extracurricular activities program, known as the After-School Activities (ASAs). From engaging in athletics and exploring the fine arts to delving into STEM subjects, we offer a diverse range of options so that students can find something that resonates with them.

As they transition into middle school, students also begin to take part in interscholastic events, which can be an exciting gateway to new experiences. These events may involve travel to different regions or even countries, allowing students to broaden their horizons, develop meaningful friendships, and engage with peers from various backgrounds. Overall, this vibrant environment fosters not only academic growth but also personal development and lifelong connections.
